When considering updates to indicators, it is important to note that changing the definition (description) of a data subject for a current scenario, could have a negative impact on existing data attached to the indicator.
Application of Indicators
Indicators are applied to Initiatives as a way of tracking and reporting on valuable metrics. There are 3 types of Indicators:
- Regular - used to track and report non-monetary values
- Monetary - used to track and report monetary values
- Smart - calculated indicator using a combination of multiple indicators above
Indicators have the the following parameters:
- Name - short name of the reporting indicator
- Description - a comment to describe the purpose of the indicator
- Base Currency / Unit - Unit of Measure for reporting (e.g. Currency like 'ZAR' or 'Meals' for non-monetary)
- Aggregate - how to combine periodic reported values (e.g. Total)
- Options (visibility) - who can see the indicator Public, Private or SuperAdmins only
Indicators can be set up and applied across multiple initiatives. They are not unique to one initiative - even though some may be used only on one initiative.
Import Context about Indicators
Super Admins are able to make their own edits to indicators. But it is important to remember, that making any changes to an indicator does carry some risk.
- Relevance of historical data captured could be affected
- The indicator could be linked to multiple initiatives - changing the indicator for one initiative, may change the context of how it's used in other initiatives.
